Destin, Florida is known for its white, sugar sand beaches and emerald green waters. For those who have been to Destin, you know exactly what we’re talking about: the sand is as white as pure sugar, so soft that you feel like you are walking on pillows, and most of the time you can walk across the sand with your bare feet without feeling the burn from the hot summer sun.
With beaches as unique as this, you are guaranteed to have some fun in the sun while vacationing in Destin!
Whether you’re headed to Rosemary beach or the shores of panama, here is a list of 6 essential items you should pack for your beach day in Destin:
1. Sunscreen
If you want to enjoy your weeklong vacation without the pain of a sunburn, bring sunscreen! Whether you prefer sunscreen with a high or low SPF number, water resistant or sweat resistant, or any other type of sun protection product, remember to apply at least 30 minutes before sun exposure and re-apply every 2 hours after that. Here are a few of our favorite sunscreens:
- Coppertone SPORT Sunscreen Spray SPF 50
- Neutrogena Beach Defense Water Resistant Sunscreen Body Lotion SPF 70
- EltaMD UV Sunscreen for Sensitive or Acne-Prone Skin, Oil-free
2. First Aid Kit
Although we hope you don’t need to use it, it’s smart to be prepared with a first aid kit for small ailments and injuries.
3. Beach Towels
Always bring more towels than you think you’ll need. With towels being used for drying off as well as laying in the sand, you can never have too many towels at hand. One of our favorite types of towels is the quick dry towel, because it works so well!
4. Snacks
Bringing snacks to the beach will save you and your family from becoming “hangry” (hungry + angry), especially if your kids are running around and work up an appetite. Bite size snacks in Ziploc bags work extremely well!
5. Water Bottles
Tip: Fill the water bottles full of ice cubes (or freeze the water), so as it melts throughout the hot day, the water stays colder longer. Packing water bottles will save you money as it will keep you and your kids away from sugary snack bar drinks throughout the day.
6. Beach Bag or Backpack
You’ll need something to carry all these essential items, as well as your personal belongings. Beach bags or lightweight daypacks work well. Bringing a backpack with a built-in cooler section is even better as it keeps your snacks and drinks cold!
This may seem like a lot of stuff to carry to the beach with you, but, trust us, you’ll be so glad you came prepared. We hope you have a wonderful day at the beach and enjoy your fun in the sun in Destin!
